Figure 1Potential mechanisms whereby a missense mutation in Chrm3 promotes increased cholinergic signalling and stimulation of adrenal gland production of EP, which signals through vascular adrenoceptors. In vascular smooth muscle cells, Chrm3 receptor mutation causes increased vascular contraction and tone and reduced vasodilation leading to increased blood pressure in salt-sensitive models.
