Abstract
BACKGROUND: Left atrial dimension (LAD) and other parameters of echocardiography have been reported to be associated with the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF). However, few studies have investigated the associations between echocardiographic parameters and the risk of AF in the Asian general population, which has a low AF incidence.Entities:

AF, atrial fibrillation; BMI, body mass index; Hb, hemoglobin; HDL, high density lipoprotein; LAD, left atrial dimension.
Overweight is defined as BMI ≥25.0 kg/m2.
Valvular heart disease includes history of valvular heart disease, aortic regurgitation (moderate or greater), mitral regurgitation (moderate or greater), and/or aortic stenosis (AS) in echocardiography.
Excessive alcohol drinking is defined as drinking 2 drinks and more/day.
