Abstract
BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease of uncertain aetiology (CKDu) is one of the major health concerns among agricultural communities in Sri Lanka. Individuals involved in severe agricultural works for their livelihood are highly vulnerable for this disease and patients have been detected with persisting proteinuria at community-level screening. The current study was designed to evaluate the diagnosis of two functional markers of kidney damage using individuals with persisting proteinuria as the baseline.Entities:

CKD stages 1, 2, 3 and 4 were identified by serum creatinine based eGFR (MDRD equation) to be at > 90, 89–60, 59–30, and 29–15 (mL/min/1.73m2), respectively. Stage 5 was not observed.UP/UC of ≥ 15 mg/mmol was considered proteinuric. Data presented as mean + SD unless otherwise stated.
