Abstract
A short review of current concepts concerning the origin and kinetics of monocytes and macrophages is given, and the humoral regulation of monocyte production by FIM, a factor synthesized and secreted by macrophages, is discussed. Genetic control of the responsiveness of monocyte precursors to FIM and that of the phagocytosis and intracellular killing of bacteria is dealt with.Entities:
