Abstract
This article presents the author's perspective on the success of the field of behavioral medicine in recruiting, involving, and retaining upwards of 17 different professional disciplines over the 40 years of its existence. Acknowledging that health psychologists have historically dominated this interdisciplinary field, the author presents some possible solutions to increasing the viability and visibility of the other disciplines in carrying out the mission of behavioral medicine.Keywords: Diversity; History; Professional disciplines
