Abstract
Diabetic foot ulceration is costly, both in terms of NHS expenditure and quality of life for the patient. This article reviews the guidelines for assessment and management of the diabetic foot ulcer and provides instruction on undertaking vascular and neurological assessments of the diabetic foot. Wound assessment, with an overview of the TEXAS and SINBAD wound classification systems, is also explored, as is the importance of the 1 working day referral for expert assessment for any new diabetic foot ulcer in order to reduce wound complications, length of hospital stay and, ultimately, amputation.Entities:
