Abstract
Monoclonal antibodies, potentially powerful diagnostic and therapeutic reagents, are having a significant impact in basic and clinical research. Some persisting problems must be solved, however, in order to realize the potential of this technology. We review the basic biology of antibody molecules and the genes that encode them, and discuss how this knowledge can be applied to make more effective monoclonal antibodies.Mesh:
