Abstract
Seventeen ovariectomized and twenty-one intact female cynomolgus macaques were examined for differences in vertebral trabecular bone volume. The ovariectomized group exhibited significantly less trabecular bone than the intact group (p less than .005), 22 months post-ovariectomy. This finding encourages the use of the cynomolgus monkey as a model for the mechanism of bone loss in ovariectomy or postmenopausal osteoporosis.Entities:
