Abstract
Background: Aberrant miR-155 expression has been reported in various types of hematologic malignancies. However, the prognostic and clinicopathological value of miR-155 remains unclear. Here, we performed this systemic review and meta-analysis to comprehensively evaluate the prognostic and clinicopathological significance of miR-155 expression in hematologic malignancies.Entities:

Systematic qualitative summary of association between miR-155 and hematological malignancies
| Hematologic Malignancy | MiR-155 Expression | Prognosis | Association and Underlying Mechanism | Ref |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Leukemia | ||||
| AML | Up-regulated, especially in FLT3/ITD+ AML | Poor | Inhibit SHIP1 and C/EBPβ, then promote PI3K-AKT and IL-6. PI3K-AKT reduced apoptosis and leukemogenesis, and IL-6 reduced cell differentiation and increased precursor cell proliferation. | |
| Up-regulated, especially in FLT3/ITD+ AML | Improved | Increase myelomonocytic markers (CD11b, CD14, and CD15) and the expression of cleaved caspase-3 with a enhanced apoptosis, reduced cell growth and clonogenic capacity. | ||
| ALL | Up-regulated | Poor | NA | |
| ATL | Up-regulated | Poor | NA | |
| CLL | Up-regulated | Poor | Reduce SHIP1 expression and enhance sensitivity to BCR ligation. | |
| Lymphoma | ||||
| DLBCL | Up-regulated, especially in ABC subtype | Poor | Downregulation of BCL6 and HDAC4. BCL6 mediates transcriptional repression in hematopoietic cell differentiation, leukemogenesis, and inflammation by recruiting HDAC4; | |
| B-NHL | Up-regulated | Poor | Associated with non-germinal B-cell-like type, the presence of B symptoms, involvement of extranodal sites, and higher IPI and ECOG scores. | |
| HL | Up-regulated | Poor | Down-regulation of PU.1 expression, thus inhibiting immunoglobulin diversification and class switch. | |
| BL | Down-regulated | NA | NA | |
| Other | ||||
| MDS | Up-regulated | Poor | Promote aberrant hematopoietic stem cell self-renewal and progression to AML. |
