Abstract
Mammotome-an ultrasound guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsy (VABB) device, has proved beneficial to the treatment of benign breast lesions. The aim of this study is to analyze the characteristics of ultrasound images of residual cavity and the changes in ultrasound images at follow-up at different intervals after the excision of benign breast lesions by Mammotome® biopsy system. A series of 247 consecutive 8-gauge Mammotome® procedures were performed under ultrasound guidance and multivariate analysis was conducted. We found fibroadenoma and adenomatosis are appeared to be the most common pathological manifestations. Follow-up by ultrasonography at an interval of one month after excision of benign breast lesions by 8-gauge vacuum-assisted Mammotome® biopsy system, is not reliable due to the residual cavity formation. A follow-up schedule starting from at least 3 months after resection is highly recommended.Entities:
