What is Newborn Screening?

Cynthia M Powell1.

Abstract

Newborn screening is a system that provides early identification and treatment of infants with disorders prior to permanent disability or death. A successful newborn screening program requires skilled effort, understanding, and collaboration by many individuals, from those collecting the blood spots to the child's primary care provider and family. ©2019 by the North Carolina Institute of Medicine and The Duke Endowment.
