Interpreting trends in alcohol consumption and alcohol related damage.

O J Skog1.

Abstract

Some theoretical and methodological issues in the study of trends in alcohol related problems are discussed. Special attention is given to the aggregation problem, the time-lag problem, the fact that other etiological factors tend to change simultaneously with alcohol consumption and the fact that changes in drinking style must be taken into consideration in addition to changes in amounts consumed.
