F R Appelbaum1.

Abstract

The use of high-dose chemotherapy or chemoradiotherapy with autologous marrow support has had a major impact in the therapy of patients with hematologic malignancies and is now being studied as therapy for patients with solid tumors. In this article the current status of autologous marrow transplantation for solid tumors is reviewed, the major limitations of this approach are described, and several current areas of research aimed at overcoming these limitations are discussed.
