Values are presented as median (interquartile range) or number (%).
The differences in the distribution of specific variables by SBP and DBP categories were tested with the chi-square test for categorical variables and analysis of variance for continuous variables; The results of the distribution difference test were all significant, regardless of SBP or DBP (all p-values<0.01).
Fasting blood sugar levels >125 mg/dL.
Hemoglobin of <13 mg/dL in men and hemoglobin of <12 mg/dL in women.
Current and past cigarette smoker.
Alcohol drinking >2 times/wk.
Low physical activity ≤2 times/wk.
Figure. 1.Restricted cubic spline graphs for the risk of all-cause and specific death by SBP (A: all-cause, C: DM, E: pneumonia, G: interstitial pneumonia, I: alcoholic liver disease, K: liver cirrhosis, M: intestinal ischemia, and O: chronic renal failure; 3 knots at 100, 120, and 140 mmHg; 120 mmHg as a reference) and DBP (B: all-cause, D: DM, F: pneumonia, H: interstitial pneumonia, J: alcoholic liver disease, L: liver cirrhosis, N: intestinal ischemia, and P: chronic renal failure; 4 knots at 70, 80, 90, 100 mmHg; 80 mmHg as a reference). Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% Confidence intervals (Cis) were estimated in Cox proportional hazard models adjusted for age, sex, body mass index, cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, current anemia, chronic disease score in the participant’s medical history, and chronic disease score in the family history. SBP, systolic blood pressure; DBP, diastolic blood pressure; NS, non-specific; DM, diabetes mellitus.
