The multiple challenges of neuropathic pain.

Didier Bouhassira1, Nadine Attal2.

Abstract

Over the last three decades, the number of research studies devoted to neuropathic pain has increased dramatically. This expansion of knowledge has generated a number of challenges, mostly relating to revisions of the definition of neuropathic pain, its diagnosis, the development of new analgesics based on mechanisms investigated in animals, and the development of optimal therapeutic approaches in clinical trials. This review focuses on these multiple challenges and proposes some topics for reflection.
