Noncardiac surgery in the cardiac patient.

S J Deron1, M N Kotler.

Abstract

As the population continues to age, more older patients present themselves for surgical procedures. Not uncommonly, these patients have considerable multiorgan dysfunction. Fundamental knowledge of predisposing risk is imperative for the optimal perioperative care of such patients. This review considers available data on factors that affect perioperative cardiac risk as they apply to specific clinical entities.
