Computed Tomography of Adult Rhinosinusitis.

Katherine Ott.

Abstract

Rhinosinusitis involves symptomatic inflammation of the paranasal sinuses. This common condition affects approximately 1 in 7 adults in the United States and is associated with significant morbidity and financial costs. Although rhinosinusitis primarily is a clinical diagnosis, medical imaging plays a unique role in sinusitis diagnosis and treatment, particularly in presurgical planning. This article reviews sinus anatomy, the characteristics of rhinosinusitis, and the modalities used to image the paranasal sinuses. ©2018 American Society of Radiologic Technologists.
