All animals showed normal function before aortic balloon occlusion. During reperfusion, only one animal in the sodium chloride group (n = 4) showed joint movement whereas all other pigs in the sodium sulfide (n = 4) group lost hind motor function. The data of the two groups with 30 min (n = 3) and 40 min (n = 2) occlusion time were obtained in preliminary experiments as described above. See text for details on the scoring system
