Abstract
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) development commonly starts with a mismatch between pre- and postnatal weight gain, leading to hepatovisceral fat excess. To escape from such central obesity, girls may accelerate their growth and/or maturation. This homeostatic mechanism is lost upon reaching adult height, and PCOS may ensue. Prevention and/or treatment of PCOS should aim at reducing central fat excess.Entities:
