Abstract
Asymptomatic retinal lesions were found on annual ophthalmic examination in a 38-year-old homosexual man with the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). The lesions were compatible with cytomegalovirus retinitis and progressed. Treatment with 9-(1,3-dihydroxy-2-propoxymethyl)guanine (DHPG) resulted in regression of the lesions and improvement in his overall clinical condition.
