Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases are among the most serious diseases, which are a leading cause of death across the world. Early diagnosis and prognosis prediction are keys for treatment and reduction of death rates. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play a critical role in the physiology and pathology of biological system and participate in the development of diseases. In addition, circRNAs are relative stable and abundant. Therefore, many studies have suggested that circRNAs could be used as biomarkers for diseases, such as neurological diseases, cancers, immune diseases, and digestive diseases. Here we summarize recent studies on circRNAs and compare the characteristics of circRNAs with traditional biomarkers. Finally, we highlight the value of circRNAs as potential biomarkers for cardiovascular diseases, including acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, coronary artery disease, and hypertension. In conclusion, circRNAs may be promising biomarkers for cardiovascular diseases.Entities:
