Fig 2Sample processing workflow.
The sample processing steps are represented as white boxes. Measured parameters are specified in grey boxes. DOC and total dissolved nitrogen (TDN) in original water samples were analyzed by high temperature catalytic oxidation (HTCO). The seaFAST analysis was used to determine Co and Cu concentrations in the original filtered water samples. Aliquots of original filtered water samples were solid-phase extracted in quadruplicates for each acidified and non-acidified sample. DOC and DON in solid-phase extracts (DOCSPE, DONSPE) were analyzed by HTCO. All other elements were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).
Gradient for the chromatographic run.
Water (adjusted to pH 7) and methanol were used as eluents.
