New Microbes New Infections is engaged in the rapid promotion of new species. Building on the original format we previously developed [1], New Microbes New Infections is proud to announce ‘New species announcement 2.0’, available starting on 1 July 2018. The aim of this new format is to promote information that a new species is now available along with its basic characteristics, including whole genome sequence, for the community. Therefore, we invented a new way of writing scientific papers and you will find on-line a form to be filled in allowing the group description of up to 10 different species. In this form, authors will have to provide information on the source of isolation; basic phenotypic characteristics, including electron microscopy morphology if available; the collection and access number where the isolates have been deposited to be available to the community; the 16S rRNA gene sequence (or an equivalent taxonomic marker acknowledged by the community) along with its GenBank accession number; the whole genome sequence (preferably within 20 scaffolds) along with its GenBank accession number (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genbank/); and the session number of the digital protologue, which has been recently promoted by the editors of Systematic and Applied Microbiology, Antoine van Leevwendhoek and ourselves. The papers submitted to New Microbes New Infections within this new format NSA 2.0 will be reviewed and edited as any scientific paper with the objective of 1-month delay between submission and the editorial decision.
