Abstract
BACKGROUND: Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bunge is one of the most widely used traditional Chinese herbal medicines. It is used as immune stimulant, tonic, antioxidant, hepatoprotectant, diuretic, antidiabetic, anticancer, and expectorant. The purpose of the study was to investigate the curative effects of the decoction obtained from Astragalus membranaceus root in intestinal mucosal injury induced by LPS in mice. An LPS-induced intestinal mucosal injury mice model was applied in the study.Entities:

Serum levels of cytokines in LPS- and AMD-treated mice
| Parameters | Controls | LPS | AMD |
|---|---|---|---|
| TNF-α (pg/mL) | 15.64 ± 1.04 | 50.30 ± 8.26* | 7.29 ± 1.12 |
| IL-1β (pg/mL) | 6.21 ± 0.45 | 9.36 ± 0.71* | 7.26 ± 0.45 |
| IL-4 (pg/mL) | 3.47 ± 0.33 | 11.81 ± 0.39* | 3.65 ± 0.43 |
| IL-6 (pg/mL) | 11.34 ± 0.21 | 14.25 ± 0.36* | 8.96 ± 0.63 |

The data are expressed as the mean ± SD (n = 10 per treatment group). *Statistically different from the control group;*P < 0.05. Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL) IL-1β, IL-4,IL-6 and IL-8
