Abstract

Bluetongue virus (BTV) was diagnosed in the Animal Research Institute, Mankon, Bamenda from tissue samples collected from five sheep of exotic breeds which had died of suspected bluetongue in a series of outbreaks between June and October 1982. Five serotypes BTV 1, 4, 5, 12 and 14 were isolated during the period mentioned. Similar disease occurred during June of the following year and BTV type 16 was isolated from a spleen sample from a dead sheep.
