Abstract
BACKGROUND: Maternal smoking during pregnancy (MSDP) has been linked to offspring's externalizing problems. It has been argued that socio-demographic factors (e.g. maternal age and education), co-occurring environmental risk factors, or pleiotropic genetic effects may account for the association between MSDP and later outcomes. This study provides a comprehensive investigation of the association between MSDP and a single harmonized component of externalizing: aggressive behaviour, measured throughout childhood and adolescence.Entities:

Fig. 1.Forest plots showing the results of the meta-analyses exploring (a) the main effect of the correlation between MSDP and offspring's aggression in childhood and adolescence, and (b) the effect size of the association between MSDP and offspring's aggression after accounting for the confounding effect of other perinatal measures. The central dot in every line indicates the mean estimate, while the two dots at the extremities of each line indicate the lower bound and upper bound 95% confidence intervals (CIs).
