Prevalence of fibrillopathia epitheliocapsularis (pseudoexfoliation) and capsular glaucoma.

H Aasved.

Abstract

A mass screening of 8,537 persons above the age of 40 years in Bergen revealed fibrillopathia epitheliocapsularis (pseudoexfoliation) in 75 persons (i.e. 0.9%) and an increased prevalence with increasing age. Comparable geriatric groups in Birmingham, Bonn, and Bergen showed a prevalence of fibrillopathy of 4.0, 4.7, and 6.3% respectively. These differences are not statistically significant. The proportion of capsular glaucoma among patients with open angle glaucoma is higher in groups representing more severe cases of glaucoma than in groups of patients with more easily treatable glaucoma.
