Fig. 2Self reported trigger factors for headache and gender differences. School and study represent the main trigger factors for headache for both sexes during adolescence. Menstruation and emotional stress constitute the principal triggers for girls, while males tend to consider loud noises, weather change and emotional stress as major provoking factors for headache. Significantly more girls than boys could identify a definite trigger (75.4% vs 64.3%, p < 0.001)
