Animal Evolution: Convergent Nerve Cords?

Abstract

How the centralized nervous systems of animals evolved remains unclear. Do the nerve cords found at various positions in the worm-shaped bodies of bilaterian animals have a common or an independent evolutionary origin? New comparative data fuel this long-standing debate.
