Abstract
Ocular drug delivery by conventional routes of administration cannot reach or maintain therapeutic drug concentrations in the target tissues for a long duration due to the presence of various anatomical and physiological barriers. Treatment of chronic ocular diseases especially posterior segment of ocular diseases requires novel drug delivery systems that is capable overcome these barriers for efficacious delivery. In recent years, the ocular sustained-release drug delivery system, as a new drug delivery approach, has drawn tremendous attention for its advantages of improving local drug concentration, prolonging action time and reducing frequency of injection. Researchers have been devoted to the developing more effective sustained-release drug delivery systems in order to achieve better clinical efficacy. This article discusses various current sustained-release corticosteroids delivery systems. (Chin J Ophthalmol, 2018, 54: 154-160).Entities:
