| Type 1 | Appendix within an inguinal hernia - not inflammed |
| Type 2 | Acute appendicitis within an inguinal hernia, no pus or perforation, no abdominal sepsis |
| Type 3 | Acute appendicitis within an inguinal hernia with local or peritoneal pus or sepsis |
