Abstract
Arterial spin labeling (ASL) is a non-invasive magnetic resonance imaging perfusion method based on changes in net-magnetization of blood water. The absence of contrast use and ionizing radiation, renders ASL valuable in hyper-acute settings as a monitoring tool for repeated dynamical measurements during and after intervention, and for patients with known co-morbidities. This text provides a short methodological introduction to ASL and contrasts it with traditional contrast-enhanced perfusion imaging. The review focused on sequence usefulness in the clinical setting of acute cerebral ischemia investigation.Entities:
