Abstract
Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease that alters one's appearance. Some define it as a cosmetic disease despite evidence that substantial psychosocial burden is associated with it. As a physician, support group leader, consultant for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, and patient, I discuss the evidence behind the psychosocial impact of alopecia areata and the importance of comprehensive treatment.Entities:
