Abstract
CARs are synthetic receptors that reprogram immune cells for therapeutic purposes. They comprise three canonical domains for antigen recognition, T cell activation, and costimulation. The CAR cDNA is genetically integrated in the T cell genome. Autologous CAR T cells are generated from the patient's peripheral blood T cells and expand in the recipient to eliminate the targeted tumor.
