[Frailty and ageing, concept and definitions].

Gaétan Gavazzi1.

Abstract

Increased life expectancy, ageing and the accumulation of chronic pathologies leads to a certain functional dependence. The term 'frailty' is used to refer to the state of 'predependence' in elderly people. It is therefore important to detect and prevent frailty and provide frail elderly people with the adapted care. Training caregivers to recognise signs of frailty is essential.
