Abstract
BACKGROUND: Two-thirds of treatment-seeking smokers are obese or overweight. Most smokers are concerned about gaining weight after quitting. The average smoker experiences modest post-quit weight gain which discourages many smokers from quitting. Although evidence suggests that combined interventions to help smokers quit smoking and prevent weight gain can be helpful, studies have not been replicated in real world settings.Entities:

Non-randomized group includes all those who were invited to the study but did not consent to baseline or randomization. Variables were collected during registration with the quitline.
Asthma, COPD = chronic obstructive lung disease; CAD = coronary artery disease.
Those who were obese were more likely to enroll and those of normal weight were less likely to enroll in the study.
