Rabbit syndrome after taking herbicide containing 2-(4-chloro2-methylphenoxypropionic) acid.

Takeshi Kitamoto1, Yoshito Kamijo1.

Abstract

Case: A 48-year-old woman attempted to commit suicide by ingesting a herbicide containing 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxypropionic acid. She was transferred to the emergency center. During this time, involuntary movements of her lips at approximately 5 Hz were observed, mimicking the chewing movements of a rabbit. Outcome: The symptom resolved in concert with the decrease in her blood concentration of the herbicide.
Conclusion: It was suspected that the ingestion of 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxypropionic acid may have been associated with development of the rabbit syndrome.
