Welcome to Toxicology Reports, a new toxicology journal for the twenty-first century. The new journal is completely Open Access and online-only, and covers a broad range of topics in the fields of toxicology research and clinical sciences. Toxicology Reports is published by Elsevier, one of the leading academic publishers worldwide, with a large portfolio of toxicology journals. The first question one may ask is: Why another toxicology journal? First, we believe that advances in fields such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and various high-throughput screening methods are generating some types of data that may not fit in with the emphasis of many of the existing journals focused on novelty and mechanistic toxicology. This does not mean that Toxicology Reports is not interested in mechanism. Rather, we acknowledge that important datasets are being generated that may provide details on toxicological processes and responses that add to our knowledge, but may not necessarily provide or impact direct mechanistic insight. Second, many studies may yield results, that while negative or descriptive, provide needed information to the scientific community that can help guide future research and ultimately move science forward. Toxicology Reports provides an opportunity to publish these studies. We are dedicated to the publication of carefully conducted and scientifically sound research from diverse areas of toxicology. Scientific rigor and quality will be our guiding principles. We also invite letters to the editor that comment on publications or other relevant issues in the broad field of toxicology. We have assembled an editorial board with a large variety of interests in the field of toxicology. The editors’ areas of specialization include topics such as nanotoxicology, immunotoxicology, computational approaches in toxicology, nephro- and hepatotoxicity, risk assessment, endocrine disruption, drug metabolism, toxicology of heavy metals, membrane transport processes, cell repair and aging, oxidative stress, signaling pathways underlying mechanisms of toxicity, risk assessment, and drug development. If potential authors have any questions about the appropriateness of Toxicology Reports for their work, please contact the Editor or any member of the Editorial Board. Although we are a new journal, we offer many advantages for authors, including rapid publication, wide dissemination of your Open Access paper, and the full resources of Elsevier, one of the oldest and most respected names in scientific publishing. We look forward to your submissions and moving the science of toxicology forward.
