Abstract
BACKGROUND: In South Korea, people injured in road traffic accidents receive compensation for medical costs through their automobile insurance. However, the automobile insurance system appears to manage health care inefficiently. This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with the hospital length of stay (LOS), which was used as an indicator of healthcare utilization, for inpatients covered by automobile insurance and undergoing invasive cervical discectomy.Entities:

ICD International classification of diseases, RR rate ratio, CI confidence interval
aAll variables in the table were simultaneously adjusted
bThe RRs (rate ratios) indicate the results of exponentiated coefficients and can be interpreted as percentage changes
Fig. 1Association between the proportion of inpatients with automobile insurance and the length of stay according to the study period, bed turnover rate, number of beds, and number of neurosurgeons/orthopedic specialists. † The results were calculated by Poisson regression analysis adjusted for inpatient-level and hospital-level characteristics. †† The rate ratios (RRs) indicate the results of the exponentiated coefficients and can be interpreted as the percentage changes. * Indicates that the results were statistically significant (P < 0.05)
