Abstract
This paper describes the measurement of whole body Ca, Cl, K, N, Na, O and P in Atlantic salmon parr, adults anpan>d kelts by neutronpan> activationpan> anpan>alysis (NAA). This technpan>ique is based onpan> counpan>tinpan>g the specific gamma activity inpan> samples which is present naturally or is produced by neutronpan> irradiationpan>. Body compositionpan> (fat, minpan>eral, proteinpan> anpan>d water) are estimated from these data. NAA has advanpan>tages over chemical methods with the potential for inpan> vivo measurements. Anpan>thropogenic 137Cs was founpan>d inpan> pan> class="Disease">sea-water (SW) salmon but not found in the freshwater (FW) stages (parr and kelts). Presence of this isotope in fish caught in FW indicates recent SW residence.Entities:
