Abstract
Centromeric transcription is a common eukaryotic centromere feature, yet it is unclear how transcription is linked to underlying repetitive satellite sequences. In this issue of Developmental Cell, McNulty et al. (2017) show for human centromeres that all α-satellite sequences are transcribed into chromatin-bound RNAs and are required for centromere assembly.Entities:
