Abstract
Toll-like receptors (TLRs) play a central role in innate immunity as pathogen sensors. During the last decade, structural analyses of TLRs have revealed the mechanisms of ligand recognition and signal transduction. Each TLR recognizes its cognate ligand in a different manner, whereas signal transduction is achieved by a common mechanism. In this review, the mechanisms of ligand recognition and signal transduction by TLRs are summarized based on recent structural information. Keywords: Toll-like receptor; innate immunity; structural biology
