Abstract
This article aims to provide useful suggestions for the implementation of new courses with peer-assisted learning (PAL) in undergraduate medical education (UGME). It presents 10 key tips for needs assessment, clarification of goals and objectives for internal marketing, the choice of teaching formats, fund raising, recruiting of educators, qualification of peer tutors, the fun factor, how to establish a structured and longitudinal curriculum, assessment methods and motivation, collecting feedback and the use of its results. These 10 tips are linked to scientific evidence in the educational literature and elucidated by specific examples, based upon a major PAL project on diagnostic imaging, which can be transferred to other teaching topics as well. In conclusion, the described tips represent a helpful tool to avoid common pitfalls in the planning, implementation, evaluation and quality-assurance of PAL-based educational projects.Mesh:
