Abstract
AIM: Smoking is a major risk factor for diabetes mellitus, mainly due to decreased insulin secretion and increased insulin resistance. However, there has been little research on the effects of smoking cessation period on changes in insulin resistance. In this study, we investigated the relationships between the length of time since smoking cessation period and insulin resistance in asymptomatic Korean male ex-smokers.Entities:

p value was calculated by t-test or Mann–Whitney test for continuous variables or chi-square test for incontinuous variables. Values are presented as mean ± SD or n (%). aDrinking ≥1 time per week. bExercise ≥1 time per week and ≥30 minutes per time. cExercise <1 time per week or <30 minutes per time. dNo exercises. BMI: body mass index; WC: waist circumference; SBP: systolic blood pressure; DBP: diastolic blood pressure; FBS: fasting blood sugar; TG: triglycerides; HDL-C: high-density lipoprotein cholesterol; HOMA-IR: homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance; CAVI: cardio-ankle vascular index; ABI: ankle-brachial index.
