Abstract
OBJECTIVE: Although several epidemiological studies assessed the relationship between fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and serum uric acid (SUA) levels, the results were inconsistent. A cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate this relationship in Chinese individuals with normal glucose tolerance. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: A total of 5,726 women and 5,457 men with normal glucose tolerance were enrolled in the study. All subjects underwent a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test. Generalized additive models and two-piecewise linear regression models were applied to assess the relationship.Entities:

Data are presented as median (interquartile range) for continuous variables or number of subjects (%) for categorical variables. OGTT = oral glucose tolerance test, HDL = high-density lipoprotein, LDL = low-density lipoprotein, eGFR = estimated glomerular filtration rate, HOMA-IR = homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance.
