Abstract
Nutrients are required for the multiple biosynthetic pathways that result in cell growth, and faster growth due to increased nutrient supply results in larger cell volume. A new study demonstrates that fatty-acid availability limits growth rate and cell envelope capacity, revealing that fatty-acid synthesis is the primary determinant of cell size in bacteria and in budding yeast.Entities:
