Abstract
BACKGROUND: Although high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL) level is inversely correlated with cardiovascular events, HDL is also reported to be positively associated with hypertension, which is a known endothelial impairment factor. Since HDL mediates important protective actions on the vascular endothelium by increasing the number of circulating endothelial progenitor cells (CD34-positive cells), the level of circulating CD34-positive cells should influence the association between HDL and hypertension.Entities:

Hypertension is defined as systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg, and/or diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg, and/or antihypertensive medication use. Multivariable ORs: adjusted further for age and BMI, smoking status, alcohol consumption, HbA1C, LDL, AST, γ-GTP, UA and GFR. HDL tertiles are <51 mg/dL for T1, 51–61 mg/dL for T2, and >61 mg/dL for T3
