Abstract
A unique case of TMJ synovitis with effusion associated with FMF is described. This effusion was treated by aspiration, once the diagnosis was established. It is believed that aspiration is the most effective way of avoiding aseptic necrosis and should be carried out as soon as the diagnosis is established. The posterior portion of the compartment is easier to find with the aspirating needle. The use of a corticosteroid in conjunction with aspiration is of questionable benefit in FMF but may play a more important part in effusion from other causes.Entities:
