Retinopathy of Prematurity.

Alice L Bashinsky1.

Abstract

Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a vasoproliferative retinal disorder unique to premature infants. As premature births increase in many areas of the world, ROP has become a leading cause of childhood blindness. A better understanding of the pathogenesis of ROP, adherence to strict screening guidelines, and evolution of treatment options have reduced the number of sight-threatening complications from ROP. ©2017 by the North Carolina Institute of Medicine and The Duke Endowment.
