Abstract
Background: Navy beans and rice bran demonstrate efficacy to regulate serum cholesterol in hypercholesterolemic adults; however, the cardiovascular disease (CVD) protective properties of these foods in children are unknown and merit investigation. Objective: The objectives were to determine whether cooked navy bean powder (NBP) and/or heat-stabilized rice bran (RB) supplementation is tolerable, improves dietary fiber intake in children, and modulates lipid profiles.Entities:

Dietary intervention snacks were analyzed using Nutritionist Pro diet analysis module (Axxya Systems, Redmond, WA).
DRI (Dietary Reference Intakes) for boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 13 years.
Figure 2.Participant tolerance to daily consumption of cooked navy bean powder and/or heat-stabilized rice bran. Calculated percent caloric intake of navy bean and/or rice bran averaged from total dietary calories based on weekly 3-day diet for each participant across diet groups.
